Requirements of Wireless Antenna for PCB Layout
Built-in antennas are often used in several forms, which are divided into shrapnel form and chip patch antenna and FPC antenna. The patch antenna has a uniform specification and a fixed size, and the position and size of the pad are fixed according to the antenna of the specific specification. In addition, according to the specific type of antenna, there are related design guidelines such as requirements for clearance around the antenna and recommendations on equipment size. If using the spring form, we recommend customers to use the PIFA antenna as a form of wireless antenna. According to our experience, the success rate and performance of the PIFA antenna are better. The antenna RF feed pad shall have a size of 2 x 3mm, and no copper shall be distributed on all layers of PCB under the area of pad including periphery ≥ 0.8 mm. In the case of a PIFA antenna, add a 2x3 mm ground pad with a distance of 2mm between the pads. The wireless antenna is usually located at the top of the device, starting at the top of the PCB, and cutting off the ground of all layers in this area by 2 ~ 3mm, but the pad part of the layer belonging to the antenna ground pad should be retained.
